Door to Door Sales in NZ: How It Works
Door-to-door sales is still one of the most direct ways to reach customers in New Zealand, provided it is done properly and within the law.
The rules
Under the Fair Trading Act, uninvited direct sales come with consumer protections, including a cooling-off period during which the customer can cancel, and a written agreement that explains it. The Commerce Commission (comcom.govt.nz) publishes the current requirements.
Doing it well
- Respect “no” and “no hawkers” signs
- Represent the brand honestly
- Train people properly before they knock
- Check the quality of every sale
